The following file systems on the departmental file servers are sent to incremental tape backup (Gold Storage):

|Administrative Data Shares|
The following file systems on the departmental file servers are stored on redundant file servers for disaster recovery only. Backups are not incremental. All files are overwritten nightly. (Bronze Storage):

|Student Home Directories|
|Departmental Web Pages|
|Class Web Pages (/projects/classes)|
|General Project Space (/projects)|
|Faculty Windows Profiles|
|Student Windows Profiles|
Incremental backups are scheduled for every night.
Up to 7 revisions of each file are archived.
Once a revision ages to be older than 30 days, that revision is purged from the backup archive. This is true for every revision except the most recent revision of the file.
When a file is deleted, it can be retrieved for up to 60 days. After 60 days, the file is purged from the backup archive.
Files and directories can be restored from tape backup upon request. The request must include the date from which the files should be restored. Requests for restoration should be used only in emergency cases. The requestor's patience is essential during this process as it may take time to process the request.
