A Special Message from the SSAB President
Hello, and welcome to the official homepage of the Student Society for the Advancement of Biometrics at WVU! In recent years, biometrics has exploded into industry, resulting in a rising demand for biometric engineers. West Virginia lies in the heart of the biometric community—with local neighbors such as the FBI, West Virginia High Technology Consortium Foundation, and other industrial giants in the technology park adjacent to I-79. Washington D.C, possibly the most prosperous area in biometric industry, is also a nearby neighbor. Being that WVU is one of the only institutions in the world that offers an engineering-based undergraduate degree in Biometric Systems, students are not only in an ideal physical location, but also a wonderful position to learn about the new biometric technologies and advancements. So, how can SSAB help you?
In the past, SSAB members have been active in numerous events hosted by both the college and the community. The group has traveled to and toured many companies, including the FBI, NSA, and National Biometric Security Project. Also, several members have attended the Biometrics Consortium Conference, an annual fair displaying biometric research in defense, national security, etc. All of these events have helped students create contacts within biometric industry and learn about biometrics in the world today. That is SSAB’s goal: to spread awareness about biometrics to the students at WVU, the community, and students afar.
Thank you,
