The course provides an introduction to multimedia systems,
with particular emphasis on technical issues in distributed
multimedia systems,
multimedia compression, and multimedia information systems.
Topics include, requirements and QoS in multimedia systems;
data storage and multimedia storage servers;
multimedia traffic characterization, traffic shaping, traffic
scheduling & admission control; multimedia multicast communication;
image compression, video compression and audio compression;
indexing and retrieval for
images, video & audio; digital watermarking.
The course is NOT about how to use/or make multimedia presentations!
