About Directed Study (CS 792)

Directed Study is not a regular course. This designation is used for independent directed study by PhD graduate students only. Normally this directed study is part of your PhD coursework as approved by your doctoral committee.

If you wish to obtain credit using this course number, you must present a proposal to a faculty member for a program of independent study, and obtain his/her agreement to supervise your program. The primary responsibility for developing the study plan rests with the individual student. Agreement must be reached with a faculty member before registering for this course number.

Ordinarily you should not register for this course number until your doctoral committee is established. Your committee will advise you on the suitability of any directed study courses for your specific program.

For convenience certain faculty members are listed as instructors for different sections of CS 792.  These are not the persons who would normally supervise your study.  I do not supervise students in CS 792 except with the prior approval of their doctoral committee.
