Title: Software Fault Tolerance — Technique and Status Overview

Abstract: This briefing presents an overview of why software fault tolerance is needed, what it is, and how it is implemented. Three approaches to implementing software fault tolerance are presented, along with representative technique operation. The presentation concludes with a discussion of current software fault tolerance issues and problems.

Speaker Bio: Laura Pullum has performed and directed research and development in software dependability, fault tolerance, safety, and reliability for 20 years. She has published over 300 papers and reports in this area, including the recently published book Software Fault Tolerance Techniques and Implementation. Dr. Pullum holds a BS in Math, an MS in Operations Research (OR), an MBA, and a Doctorate of Science in Systems Engineering and OR. She is a member of the IEEE and Mensa. Dr. Pullum is a Principal Scientist at the Institute for Scientific Research, Inc. in Fairmont, WV.
